When to Book a Newborn Photography Session: The Ultimate Guide for Sabah Parents

Congratulations on your new little one! The first few weeks of a baby's life are a beautiful blur of snuggles, new routines, and pure love. As a Sabah newborn photographer, I'm often asked, "When is the best time to do newborn photos?" The answer is simpler than you think, but timing is the key to capturing those timeless, sleepy portraits you'll cherish forever.

The Golden Window: Why the First Two Weeks Are Best

While you can capture beautiful photos of your baby at any age, most newborn photographers recommend a photo session within the first 5-14 days after birth. This period is often called the "golden window," and for good reason.

The Sleepy Advantage

In their first two weeks of life, newborns are in a much deeper sleep phase. This makes them more content and cooperative during a posed session, allowing me to gently and safely position them into those adorable, curled-up poses you see in my portfolio. After this period, babies become more alert, their sleep is lighter, and it's much easier for them to wake up.

Natural Poses and Flexibility

Babies still retain their natural, womb-like curl during these early days. This flexibility is perfect for getting those cozy, tucked-in photos. As they grow, they start to stretch out their limbs, making those specific poses more challenging to achieve.

Before Baby Acne and Colic Appear

Around the two-week mark, many newborns start to develop baby acne or become more prone to colic. By scheduling your session earlier, we can capture their smooth, flawless skin and ensure they are comfortable throughout the entire shoot.

How to Plan for Your Newborn Photography Session as a Sabah Parent

I know that planning anything with a due date is tricky, but there’s a simple process to make it stress-free.

  1. Book While You're Pregnant

To guarantee a spot during this short golden window, I recommend booking your newborn photo session while you're still pregnant. This is the most crucial step! We'll pencil in your due date and then finalize the exact session date once your baby arrives. This ensures you have a spot on my calendar and can focus on what really matters—welcoming your baby.

  1. What Happens If My Baby Arrives Early or Late?

Don't worry! Only a small percentage of babies are born on their due date. That's why I only take a limited number of newborn bookings each month. This flexibility allows me to adjust the date for you, whether your little one decides to make an early or late appearance. All I ask is that you contact me as soon as possible after the birth so we can confirm the perfect date for your session.
